Kinship for the Future

Who we are

We are a group of grandparents and extended family members who are the main carers of children. Our members work hard at creating help, support and encouragement for all those in similar situations throughout the North.

Our aims

To benefit children in our care
To make changes for the better for carers
To organise social activities
To provide each other with confidence and mutual support

Reasons for the need of Kinship Care

Parental substance abuse
Parental incarceration
Teenage parents who are not ready to be parents
Domestic violence
Mental illness
Bereavement

What are the advantages of being involved with Kinship?

Kinship care enables children to live with people they know and trust
It enables children to continue family relationships
It creates a family identity for the children
It focuses on the strength of the family not the deficits
It lessens the trauma of family separation

What we do

Our informal meetings involve sharing our experiences, organising speakers on specific topics, and discussing way to influence local services and politicians all over tea and coffee.
